Osteopathy: Peter Mason & Charlotte Hunt

Well, I guess you've reached this page either because you're just surfing or because you're in pain and decided that you need an osteopath. If you are in pain and it's only happened within the last 48 hours then go get a packet of frozen peas from the freezer, wrap it in a tea towel so it doesn't burn your skin and put the pack over the painful area. Leave it on for 5 to 10 mins and repeat hourly.

So, what do we deal with?

We've had good results in treating problems involving most muscles and joints - not just back pain, but neck, shoulder, elbow, knee, foot, hand, wrist, ankle & hip pain. Sciatic nerve pain often responds very well to osteopathic treatment.

Who needs an osteopath?

Everybody! Our most frequent visitors are builders, golfers, busy mums (and mums-to-be) and office workers - especially those spending lots of time at computers. We also treat a lot of sports related injuries.

What to expect

Each session lasts about 30-45 minutes, perhaps a little longer for the first one where we take a detailed case history. You will be asked to undress to your underwear (so please wear something you won't be embarrassed to be seen in) and move in certain ways so we can work out what the problem is.

How we work

You'll probably find that all osteopaths work in slightly different ways. Peter works in a "structural" manner, generally using massage, articulation and, when necessary, some form of manipulation. Charlotte also adds cranial osteopathy to this mix.

After Treatment

We'll probably give you some exercise guidelines to help settle and hopefully prevent future occurences of the problem. Don't worry, we know you'll forget about them after a few weeks, but at least you'll have a good idea what might help next time you get a similar pain.

What next?

How many sessions you'll need depends on many factors. However, we've found that 9 out of 10 people only need one treatment session to help them back to an acceptable level of comfort. We suggest coming in for a little maintenance every few months to make sure you stay in good shape.
